Swenson is a Sooner

Rivals250 offensive tackle Erik Swenson of Downers Grove (Ill.) South has sorted through several suitors since his break-up with Michigan last week following a two-year commitment. After deciding to forego an opportunity to play in the International Bowl in Texas this week, Swenson scheduled an official visit to Oklahoma that proved to be the final step in his recruiting journey.

THE LATEST: Swenson traveled to Oklahoma on Friday and after seeing the sights in Norman made the decision to commit to the Sooners. Offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh had traveled to Swenson’s hometown earlier in the week, which prompted the four-star’s visit. An offer had not been extended, however, prior to the visit and did not come until the Swensons were on-campus. Missouri, Rutgers, Virginia and others had extended offers to Swenson following his de-commitment from Michigan, but by getting the four-star on-campus this weekend Oklahoma was able to lock him up.

RIVALS’ REACTION: This recruitment highlights the craziness we see in the run-up to National Signing Day because two weeks ago Swenson was not even on the Sooner’s radar. Swenson's recruiting process started early in his freshman year, but ultimately did not get settled until the last official visit weekend for the 2016 class. The Chicagoland native will be very pleased to get this recruiting process behind him following his much-publicized split with Michigan earlier this month and the Sooners are getting a versatile offensive line prospect who could fill either the left or right tackle roles.
