Sweetwater DB one to watch

National City (Calif.) Sweetwater has been a solid team in the San Diego area for the past few years.
Sweetwater supplied Washington State with a talented true freshman who saw a lot of action on very good Cougar a year ago. That Sweetwater alum is Allen Thompson.

Look for D-I schools to once again hit the Sweetwater campus for talent. One player who is getting solid Mountain West recruiting action and some Pac10 and Big XII looks is cover corner/wide receiver Joseph Wynn (5-11, 170, 4.55).
Not only is Wynn a superb football player, but he’s a standout in track. He took his league in the 100-meter, 200-meter and in the man’s race the 400-meter.
For his exploits on the gridiron, Wynn was an all-league honoree as a defensive back. He accounted for 67 tackles, seven pass deflections, four fumbles caused, three tackles for loss, and three interceptions.
Wynn also saw action as a wide receiver. He had 21 receptions for 201 yards and three touchdowns for a run oriented team.
Wynn is also an outstanding special teams player with the accent on returning kicks.
“Joseph has a tremendous upside,” Sweetwater head coach Eric Peterson said. “He has tremendous character and has never given up even though he has had to overcome a lot in his young life.”
Wynn’s brother Jamaal Wynn starts for UNLV and the Rebels are definitely recruiting the younger Wynn.
Local school San Diego State has also shown interest. Colorado State, a school that has done a nice job identifying talent in the San Diego area is also looking at Wynn.
Oregon and Colorado are also interested but like other Pac10 and Big XII teams they are taking a wait and see stance. A big senior season will open the recruiting floodgates for Wynn.
Another player from Sweetwater on the cusp of a D-I future is wide receiver Oswaldo Simental (6-3, 207, 4.7).
Simental has the grades to go just about anywhere with his above 4.0 GPA and his 1190 SAT.
Simental has the size and hops that D-I schools like. He has recorded a 35-inch vertical jump.
Possessing a good pair of hands, Simental caught 37 passes for 550 yards and seven touchdowns. Pretty good production when you take into account that Sweetwater prefers to run the ball.
Simental was an all-league selection as a junior.
WAC and Mountain West schools are showing the earliest interest.
