Sween pulls the trigger

You won’t find a more productive quarterback anywhere in the West region than Ridgecrest (Calif.) Burroughs signal caller Karsten Sween. The Student Sports Junior All-American had a huge season a year ago and is putting up big numbers once again this year. Sween recently ended the recruiting process and will play his college ball in the Mountain West conference next season.
“He committed to Wyoming,” Burroughs head coach Jeff Steinberg said. “I think they’re getting a steal. They recruited Karsten very hard and he visited this past weekend and fell in love with the place. It’s funny, at first, Karsten was a little disappointed that he wasn’t getting more looks from some of the bigger schools but after he visited Wyoming, he feels it doesn’t matter who else wants him, that’s just the perfect place for him.

“Karsten is a small town guy and the city itself is a good fit for him. Joe Glenn is a great football coach and we all really like him a lot. I think it’s a great overall fit for him as well. Karsten is such a smart kid and should do very well in college. There’s a reason he leads the state in passing right now, he knows how to play the game and we’re all just happy he found the perfect place for him.”
As a junior, Sween, 6-2, 210 pounds threw for 3,752 yards and 40 touchdowns while completing 61% of his passes. The Burros had a bye this past weekend and through five games, the quarterback leads the state with 1,703 yards and 17 touchdowns. He’s also rushed for three scores but his strength is definitely his ability as a pure pocket passer. Sween is so smart and when given time, he has the ability to make quick reads and can pick any defense apart.
Sween is a very accurate passer who throws a nice deep ball and does a good job of finding his second and third options. We saw Sween at the SoCal Nike Camp back in April and although he struggled somewhat that day, we’ve always thought of him as more of a gamer who performs better in pads where it matters than in shorts and shirts.
Academically, Sween has already qualified and scored a 980 on the SAT to go along with a 3.34 GPA.
