Surprise SEC offer for Williams

Dwight Williams had not been talking to Tennessee at all but after getting linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen's phone number an offer came from the Volunteers and they are now under serious consideration.
The 2014 linebacker from Gardena (Calif.) Serra reached out, talked for a while with Thigpen and things worked out. Williams, whose recruitment is heating up, is excited to add a big SEC offer.

"I haven't been talking to them," Williams said. "My friend gave me the number for the coach and I gave the coach a call and we were talking for a minute.
"He told me to list all my offers and then he told me to call him back the next day, he went over my film and everything, and that's when he offered me."
One reason why Williams is taking Tennessee seriously is because he's close with Vols defensive back Byron Moore, who's from the Los Angeles area, and the two have talked about the program.
Williams, a four-star prospect by Rivals.com who said he's open to all programs across the country, said he's been encouraged by what Moore said about his experience at Tennessee.
"I know B Moore is up there so that's pretty big," Williams said.
"He loves it up there. That's all he talks about. That's a great school so it would definitely be an option for me."
So far, Williams has landed offers from Arizona State, Boise State, Cal, Colorado, Nebraska, Oregon State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, UCLA, Washington and Washington State.
Nothing else seems new in Williams' recruitment but he's planning to take some unofficial visits soon. UCLA, USC, Washington and Arizona State are probable destinations.
