Sunflower State battle brewing

More than 31,000 fans flocked to Manhattan, Kan., this past weekend to take in Kansas State's spring football game. Unfortantely for the Wildcats, one of those people that couldn't make it was Great Bend, Kan., running back Jeremy Reed. But he had a very valid excuse for not making it.
"I had prom this past Saturday," Reed, who is 5-foot-11 and 205 pounds, said.

"I was really hoping to get out there again. I was up there back during basketball season, and the coaches wanted me to get there for the spring game, but I had promised my girlfriend that I'd take her to prom."
By all accounts, Reed said both he and his girlfriend had a good time.
Reed was also hoping to make it to Lawrence, Kan., for Kansas' spring game, but he couldn't make it either. He said his coaches are expecting the Jayhawk coaching staff, including Mark Mangino, to be in town this Thursday.
"Clint Bowen is recruiting me for KU, and I've liked our talks so far," Reed, who has offers from both KU and K-State, said. "He seems like a nice coach. I really don't know a lot yet about what it's like at KU since I really haven't visited there yet."
Reed is being recruited for the Wildcats by Tim McCarty. Reed said he's enjoyed getting to know McCarty also and at this point it's still a tight race between the Wildcats and Jayhawks.
One team that could change things up if they decide to get more involved is Texas A&M. Aggie assistant Stan Eggen was through town last week and A&M seemed very interested, Reed said.
Reed is busy running track during the off-season. He competes in the 4x100, the high jump and the long jump. He was multi-event state qualifier last year, but this year things have been tougher.
"I've not done as well this year," Reed said. "Regionals are less than a month away, so I have to keep working hard to get better and improve before that gets here."
