Sturdivant patient with recruiting process
Andre Sturdivant remains patient with the recruiting process but the Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville linebacker said recently that an offer from Penn State was big and that the Nittany Lions have moved way up his list.
"That was a big one," Sturdivant said. "I actually went down there to visit a few weeks ago and I got to sit down with coach Joe Paterno and that was a really good feeling because I never thought I'd meet him in person.
"It most definitely moves up on my list. I'm still waiting to see whether Ohio State is going to give an official offer or not because they're high on my list, too."
Meeting with Paterno was a big deal for Sturdivant, a 6-foot-2, 249-pounder who's rated No. 17 at inside linebacker and No. 26 in the Ohio state rankings by Rivals.com. It could go a long way in determining where Sturdivant ends up even though he's in no rush to make a decision.
"I was speechless," Sturdivant said of his meeting with Paterno. "I didn't even know what to say because he's a legend. I just love watching him on TV. Even to walk into his office and shake his hand was more than words could explain."
Ohio State is clearly high on Sturdivant's list as well but he's under the impression that the Buckeyes have not officially offered yet. If they do, things could get trickier but Sturdivant said it would just be something else to consider.
Sturdivant's plan now is to take some official visits and probably wait until after his senior season before making a commitment.
"I wouldn't say it complicates anything because I still have an open mind," Sturdivant said of Ohio State. "I would be happy because I love Ohio State but at the same time I love other schools, too. I don't think I'd commit anywhere right now.
"I'm just open-minded. I don't really have any plans to commit any time right now and I'm just waiting for the season to start. I'm thinking about waiting it out until the end of the season and taking my visits. I don't really want to commit too fast. I'm still open-minded and looking at the schools. I'm still really looking."
Penn State and Ohio State are high on Sturdivant's list but Michigan State is also being strongly considered. Illinois and Toledo are getting looks, too. Cincinnati has started to show interest in Sturdivant as well.
