Linebacker Derek Nicholson, the brother of current Florida State linebacker A.J. Nicholson, was in Tallahassee over the weekend. How did the trip go?
"Florida State is a great school," he said. "I can see why so many great players want to go there. They're all about making you a better player, and the competition is one of the reasons everyone improves. The stadium and facilities are real nice, and I met a lot of good people."
Nicholson has one of the most impressive offer lists in the nation, holding scholarships from more than 15 schools. Among those that have offered are Florida State, North Carolina, NC State, Michigan, Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia. Is he leaning in any direction?
"No, I want everyone to know that I haven't eliminated anyone and everybody is even on my list. I'm looking at the schools that have offered a little more of course, but since it's so early I really think I'll be able to go just about anywhere."
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker from Winston Salem (N.C.) Mt. Tabor runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds and has several other visits set up for the near future. Nicholson will visit either Michigan or Florida on April 10, Georgia on April 17, and Virginia Tech on April 24.
