Texas never had much of a recruiting presence in the midwest under Mack Brown, but Charlie Strong has strong ties to the region and offered one of the top 2015 prospects in Ohio on Thursday.
Cincinnati (Ohio) Winton Woods four-star offensive tackle George Brown has more than 40 scholarship offers in his pocket, but he did not hold one from Texas until a conversation with Strong Thursday night.
"It's a big offer," Brown said. "I like Coach Strong a lot. I got to go to Louisville a few times and meet him. I guess I will just have to get to Texas now whenever me and my family can make it and check out Texas."
Brown is already looking at an unofficial visit to Austin in March, when he will likely also visit Baylor and Texas A&M.
In the near term, though, Brown is planning a trip out West. He and his father will be on campus at UCLA Jan. 17 and USC Jan. 18.
"I have been talking to USC and UCLA for awhile," Brown said. "I also have family out there - my aunt lives out there. It is a chance to visit the school, meet the coaches and also visit some family."
UCLA is another one of those 40 scholarship offers, and Brown has been building a relationship with their staff over the last few months.
"I talk to Coach (Adrian) Klemm from UCLA and I know he was a good lineman in the NFL and won some Super Bowl rings," Brown said.
USC has not yet offered, and with Steve Sarkisian's staff just getting settled, Brown is in the beginning stages of his relationship with that staff.
"I talked with one of their coaches so far," Brown said. "He seems like a pretty cool guy and he said they are really excited I am coming out there for a visit."
With offers from across the country, Brown is already taking a national look at his recruitment and playing out west does hold appeal for him.
"Distance from home is not really a factor because I know my mom and dad will make sure they are at my games," Brown said. "Plus, I already have an aunt out there in California, so that is a plus too."
The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Brown is ranked as the No. 12 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 115 player overall.
