Stoner on board with first offer

Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove defensive back Nick Stoner is on the board with his first scholarship offer. Iowa State offered the 6-foot-2 prospect on Wednesday.
"I was about to take off for a visit to Purdue," Stoner said. "My coach texted me and told me that Iowa State has an offer for me, and that I better come to the school to talk to them on the phone. Coach [Wally] Burnham told me that they have a scholarship offer on the way, and now I have the official letter."

"Coach Burnham knows my coach really well," Stoner said. "The offer kind of came out of nowhere, but I sent my film to them, and they liked my film. The defensive backs coach, the head coach, and coach Burnham all liked the film. Those are the three guys that make the decision."
Stoner said he plans to visit Iowa State, but he is not sure when that will be.
Stoner did make it to Purdue for his visit, and took in a basketball game against in-state rival Indiana.
"I loved the atmosphere at the game," Stoner said. "IU is a big rivalry, and you could feel everyone excitement for Purdue. Every fan was crazy, it was just awesome. I am sure the football atmosphere will be crazy too."
Stoner has made junior day visits to Ohio State, Indiana, Toledo, and Cincinnati. He said Michigan State, Western Kentucky and Ball State have been in contact as well.
"I am just looking for that feeling," Stoner said. "That feeling like you are meant to be there. Of course, academics is a priority. I am just looking for a good atmosphere, a family atmosphere. I am a big family guy. All the schools I have been to are big on family and academics. I would like a chance to play as well.
