Stock Is Rising For SoCal Linebacker

Junior to Watch: Russell Allen
School: Vista, Calif.

Position: Outside Linebacker
Size and Speed: Allen stands 6-foot-3, weighs 212 pounds and runs the 40 in 4.65. His bench is 330, squat 455 and his power clean is 300. Allen had standout performance at the Nike Camp held at USC when had the fourth fastest time in the pro-agility drill with a 3.96.
Honors: As a junior Allen was selected all-league and he was mentioned as someone to watch by the Long Beach Telegram’s Best of West. As a sophomore he was all-league and was on the all-state sophomore team.
Statistics: Allen racked up 75 tackles, six and half sacks, five tackles for loss, two fumbles caused and one fumble recovery.
Favorite Colleges: UCLA, USC, Stanford, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Nebraska and San Diego State are just a sampling of the school that has taken notice of Allen.
Skinny: Allen is extremely coachable and will whatever is asked of him. He’s physical, explosive and aggressive – the perfect recipe for a top-flight linebacker prospect. Allen is the epitome of what the term non-stop motor implies and has all the goods you want in a D-I linebacker prospect.
“Russell is an unbelievable kid,” Vista head coach Chris Houser said. “He’s a gem.”
“Russell could give a rip about stats,” Houser said. “The bottom line with Russell is his team and winning.”
Allen is a versatile player who had played both inside linebacker and middle linebacker during his career at Vista. He played outside linebacker as a sophomore and played inside as a junior. He will be moving back to the outside for his senior season.
The scouting report on Allen is he’s very flexible and limber as an athlete. He also has great vision and finds the football then makes the play.
Allen has had two outstanding combines so far this season at the Nike Combine at USC and the USC camp that was two weeks. Because of his performances at the two camps his stock is on the upward turn.
