Mentor (Ohio) Lake Catholic defensive end John Stepec has racked up a double-digit offer total. Now, the 6-foot-3, 246-pound prospect is going to make in-person evaluations of several of those schools.
Stepec does not plan to partake in any summer camps, but he has unofficial visits lined up to Bowling Green and Syracuse this week, followed by trips to Cincinnati and Toledo the following week. A trip to Indiana may also be worked in. The Hoosiers have not offered yet, but Stepec feels they could be getting close. He will evaluate several factors during each campus visit.
"I just want to see how well the teammates bond with each other," Stepec said. "Then, I just want to spend some time with the coaches, get to know them and see if I like them. And I also want to check out the campus and see if it is comfortable for me."

Not only will Stepec be evaluating the team and social dynamics at each school, he is also considering how each school plans to use him.
"Minnesota and a couple other schools want me to play d-tackle depending on how much weight I gain. I want to play d-end and don't want to play d-tackle, so I am sticking to the schools that will let me play d-end.
Stepec's eventual college decision will be greatly affected by his upcoming trips, but based on what he has learned about the schools that have offered already, a couple stand out.
"Right now, my top one is between Cincinnati and Toledo," Stepec said. "My third is probably Syracuse and fourth is probably Bowling Green.
"I actually have been thinking about the decision and I might make it sooner than I thought. In the next month I might possibly make it, depending on how these visits go."
