Brooklyn (N.Y.) Lincoln wide receiver Khalif Staten was scheduled to take his first official visit of the season last weekend to Purdue. The 6-foot-3, 219-pounder didn't make the trip. Is he planning to reschedule?
"My flight got cancelled because of the storms," he said. "I should be going out there in a few weeks for an official when they play Michigan State on November 10th.
"I just want to see how everything goes out there. It's actually going to be better because I'll get a full weekend. If I went last weekend I was coming after my game, now I can come up for Friday practice and the walkthrough to see how everything evolves around them."
The Boilermakers are Staten's lone offer, is there a chance he commits on the trip?
"There's a very good chance, probably 75% that I might commit," he said. "I was very interested in them early on and they are my only offer and I appreciate that. I like what they see in me."
A few other schools are showing interest in the three-star prospect including Miami, Maryland and Rutgers although none have pulled the trigger.
"I guess they are looking for a bigger receiver, but I'm here willing to catch the ball, block and whatever a program needs. A lot of people look at my 4.58-second 40 and I think that's going to catch corners off guard. I want to prove everybody else wrong."
Staten is putting together a big year for Lincoln.
"I've got 49 catches for 875-yards and 11 touchdowns in eight games," he stated. "I've got one more game on Friday before the season is done."
