Star RB Skips Texas

Newport News (Va.) Heritage running back Michael Johnson is exactly where he wants to be right now -- at home.
"I decided a while aho I didn't want to play in the game," said the 5-foot-10, 180-pounder. "I just didn't really want to make the trip. Plus my mom was in town for Christmas and that's a long plane ride."

So Johnson is hanging out at home and thinking about his future.
"I haven't heard from Tennessee in a couple of weeks, but that's cool," he said. "If they get in touch with me, I'll probably still take my visit there. If they don't get in touch, then not a big deal. I'm basically down to Miami and Virginia anyhow."
While it is the dead period, teams can still call recruits once per week. Johnson just spoke to Virginia assistant coach Mike London earlier in the day.
"He's a cool guy," said Johnson. "It's funny but my mom is pushing for Miami because she lives down there, my dad wants Virginia because he's here and all the guys I've played against just tell me not to go to UVA. It's getting to be interesting."
Johnson claims no leader at this point. He visits Tennessee on Jan. 11 (maybe) and Virginia on Jan. 18 and will decide close to February.
