Jontrey Tillman of Baldwin (La.) West St. Mary School has never visited Stanford but the rising senior cornerback/running back has seen and heard enough about the place to know he likes it.
"The academics and the football stand out equally," Tillman said.
On Friday, just four days after he said he received a Stanford offer, the 5-foot-7, 180-pounder committed to the Cardinal.
"I called [assistant] Lance Anderson and the staff like 30 minutes ago," Tillman said. "They were excited to have me commit."
According to Tillman, who carries a 4.0 GPA, he also had offers from Memphis, Southern Miss and Tulane. Additionally, he is being recruited by schools such as SMU and Texas A&M.
"Getting that [Stanford] offer was exciting," Tillman said. "That's something I've been waiting for to come. My family is excited. They're just glad I'll have a chance to learn in a great environment like that and play at that level. They have a great football program. I feel like it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be offered a scholarship by Stanford.
Tillman said he knew he wanted to commit "the night they offered me."
What do the Cardinal, which visited him this spring, like about Tillman?
"They say they love my speed and my athleticism," Tillman said.
Tillman hopes to visit Stanford this summer. He wouldn't rule out the possibility of visiting other schools but said he is "100 percent" committed to the Cardinal.
