Stanford lands good one

The Stanford Cardinal helped themselves with a verbal committal from a player deep in the heart of Fighting Irish country when defensive lineman Mike Macellari (6-6, 260, 4.8) from South Bend (Ind.) Clay decided to take his considerable skills west to play for Stanford.
The Cardinal get a very athletic big guy in Macellari. Not only was he a standout defensive lineman, but he was solid on the offensive line as well. This behemoth also did his team’s placekicking Lou Groza style. He was 21-23 on PAT’s and kicked two field goals with a long a 41-yards.

“I committed contingent upon admissions,” Macellari said. “I think I fit in well with the University, my teammates and the coaches.”
Macellari was selected to every 1st-team all-state that is possible in the Hoosier State. He was also selected MVP for his conference and his team.
Macellari had 60 tackles, ten tackles for loss and ten sacks as a senior while fighting through double teams all season long. What make Macellari’s stats even more impressive is team’s avoided his side of the ball like one would avoid a cold.
It came down to Stanford and Purdue for Macellari’s services with the Cardinal winning this one.
