St. Louis team boasts top 2007 prospects

The St. Louis (Mo.) Cardinal Ritter program has already had plenty of recruiting success during the 2006 class with several Division I prospects and now the 2007 class is already starting to shape up to be a good one as well.
Coach Michael Baker has two top prospects on defense in the 2007 class and one is his son, Michael Baker a 6-foot, 200-pound safety who has already grabbed his first offer from Houston. Baker, who plays linebacker is high school, is just one half of the strong duo when you add free safety Deandre Gilmore in there as well.

"He's only 16 years old and when you look at him, it doesn't look like he weighs that much but he does," Baker said about his son. "He's got to focus on playing and getting through school right now, but he was very excited about it. He understands that this is just his junior year starting up."
"Deandre is in that same mold in that he's a really good prospect already at this age."
Though his two defenders are hearing from schools in almost every conference across the country, Baker is quick to point out that the kids are still growing. However, his son got a chance to go with senior Antonio Gully on an unofficial visit and got his first experience of the process to come.
"Yeah, Antonio and Michael both went up to Nebraska for a visit," Baker said. "He just hung out with them and the Nebraska coaches will probably be recruiting him just like they did Antonio."
Another possibility is that Baker grows into a different position with how big he already is at this level.
"A lot of coaches think if he's this big right now, he could get even bigger and be a linebacker prospect," Baker said. "He's just focusing on everything else he can control and let the other stuff take care of itself."
