St. Louis 2019 MJ Anderson suffers setback

One of the headliners in a deep 2019 class in the St. Louis area is Christian Brothers College High linebacker/defensive end MJ Anderson, but the three-star prospect suffered a setback to his junior season before it even began.

THE LATEST

Anderson broke his leg in the same practice earlier this month that his teammate, four-star 2018 wide receiver Kamryn Babb, went down with a torn ACL, and both will be lost for the season. For Anderson the timing could have been better. He was just starting to gain momentum in his recruiting process and undoubtedly had teams across the region anticipating his early season film. Offers from Iowa State, Purdue and South Carolina already came in before the injury, while schools like Notre Dame and UCLA have been showing serious interest.

IN HIS WORDS

“I'm hopefully going to (visit) Notre Dame in October. Their interest is pretty good as of right now. (I’m) just getting to know the staff.

“UCLA is showing a lot of love. I love the state (of California) and the feel of West Coast football.

“I like Purdue a lot. I’ve talked to Coach (Chris) Barclay and the program and the facility is getting a lot of love from me.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

A good junior season could have catapulted Anderson into a national recruit. At 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds he is coming off a strong sophomore campaign and a solid off-season, but that momentum will likely be stalled until teams can see him in action again. The teams that do stick around with Anderson in the interim will likely win big points, and that could pay off big down the road, especially if Anderson fully rehabilitates and blows up as a senior. That scenario is certainly a possibility – Anderson was a player who we anticipated could have seen a major stock bump this season.
