Spikes ready to impress

Recruiters were aware of Painesville (Ohio) Harvey offensive lineman Jeff Spikes when he was a sophomore. He started at offensive tackle that year, but missed his entire junior season with a stress fracture in his left foot.
The injury required surgery including screws inserted in the foot. But the 6-foot-6 and 315-pound Spikes says he is completely healthy now and recruiters are definitely interested.

"I like Ohio State, most definitely," Spikes said. "And North Carolina, Iowa, Notre Dame, Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Illinois and Pitt is another big one.
"That's the main group right now. I get mail from all of them."
Spikes is ready to show recruiters he is completely healthy.
"Verbally, some of them have talked about offering," Spikes said. "Pitt, Iowa and North Carolina said if I come and perform at their camp everything should be there. And Ohio State is really looking forward to seeing me at camp."
Spikes will kick his camp tour off on Monday.
"I go to Youngstown State June 5," he said. "I have Ohio University June 8, Toledo June 11, Pitt June 17, Michigan June 19-20, Cincinnati June 20, Ohio State June 23 and Notre Dame June 26."
When asked who his favorite school is, Spikes said, "Pitt and Ohio State are my top two.
"I'm impressed with how Pitt has recruited me. Last week their defensive coordinator came to school on Tuesday, then coach Wannstedt came Thursday. They've let me know how many players they have put in the league.
"When I went to the NIKE Camp at Ohio State I checked some things out. One of their coaches came to our school, but I was sick that day. No school is better than Ohio State. They are No. 1 in everything. They have a very efficient program."
