Spears close to landing first offer

Richmond (Va.) Varina linebacker Larry Spears is on the verge of his first offer. The 6-foot-0, 214-pounder has a variety of other schools taking a look as well.
"I'm going to a junior day at Delaware this weekend on April 14th," he said. "I believe they may offer me then.

"They told me they loved watching my film and they think I'm a very good person."
Spears is hearing from Hampton, Richmond, Old Dominion, Ball State, Virginia and Virginia Tech too.
"Virginia's defensive coordinator said he really likes me and he wants me to visit more. He wants to get to know me a whole lot better," he said. "Virginia Tech's coaches have said they're going to watch me this year."
Spears confirmed plans to camp at both Virginia and Virginia Tech this summer.
So, does Spears like anybody?
"I really like Virginia, Virginia Tech, Richmond and Delaware," he said. "It's cause all of them have unique programs. They mostly focus on you finishing college and they all love playing football."
Spears is coming off a successful junior season with Varina where he posted 117 tackles, 21 for loss, one interception for a touchdown, one forced fumble and nine sacks. The year resulted in second team all-metro and first team all-district honors.
