Spanellis updates recruitment

Not too long ago junior offensive tackle Stephen Spanellis from Baltimore (Md.) Gilman School received his eighth offer from Virginia Tech.
"It was very exciting and I was surprised," said the 6-foot-6, 290-pound Spanellis. "I was happy that they were interested in me to offer me a scholarship.

"I know that academically it's a pretty good school," he said. "One of my former teammates Melvin Keihn is playing there right now. I'll probably visit there at some point and I am thinking about going to the Junior Day."
Spanellis has been trying to keep in touch with as many schools as he can.
"Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Northwestern and Stanford," he said. "Those are the five schools I have been talking to the most lately."
Spanellis does not have a favorite school right now but some schools have piqued his interest.
"Virginia Tech, Michigan, Tennessee, Maryland and Georgia Tech," Spanellis said. "Those are the schools that have stood out to me so far. I think Michigan is a great school and they have a great tradition. I think Harbaugh was a good hire and I think they're going in the right direction. Maryland is pretty close to home and they're pretty solid academically. They are a program on the rise as well and they just moved to the Big Ten."
Spanellis plans to make cuts to his list this summer and he plans to announce his commitment decision before his first game or before camp.
