Johnathan Hughley

The home stretch of the 2023 recruiting cycle is nearly upon us but there aren't many elite recruits that remain uncommitted. In fact, more than 200 players in the Rivals250 are already committed.

With teams around the country still trying to fill out their recruiting classes, here are five players from the Southeast that could flip their commitment to another team down the road.

Hughley has been committed to Georgia since Sept. 23 of last year, so if he were to flip one would guess he’d done it by now. But Hughley’s name continues to come up as a possible decommitment candidate.

Nebraska and Auburn officially hosted Hughley in June heightening the possibility of change. The perceived top candidate to win him over is Auburn. Auburn got him on campus for a Junior Day in January, again in March, for his official, and for another visit at the end of July. Word is the Tigers are working hard to get him.

Cameron Lenhardt
Cameron Lenhardt (Ryan Wright)

As Murphy’s law goes, Lenhardt could be looking for a new home after Nebraska fired head coach Scott Frost on Sunday. Lenhardt took his time finding his fit with the Cornhuskers, committing on Aug. 25 only to have what is sure to be an across-the-board staff shakeup some two weeks later. As he narrowed down his offers, his top three schools were Nebraska, Michigan State and Penn State.

Where defensive coordinator Erik Chinander or defensive line coach Mike Dawson goes could influence where Lenhardt ends up.

The Hawkeyes have had their troubles on offense so far this season, and there could be some changes in their 2023 class because of it. The four-star from Naples High School has not set any other visits but teams are coming after him. Raphael has reported heavy interest coming in from Oregon, NC State, Vanderbilt and BYU.

Oregon is a recent offer, perhaps to pair with four-star commit Dante Dowdell. The big player here could be NC State. The Wolfpack hosted him on an official June 3.

Emory Williams

There is a long list of college programs in need of a 2023 QB, and Miami has two. For weeks there have been rumors that both Auburn and Florida State have been going after Williams. All of Williams’ social media posts are dedicated to his Canes’ commitment, who knows how strongly the messages from the Tigers and Seminoles are resonating with Williams.

No matter the position or the year, all players have to compete for jobs at the college level, and that will hold true at Miami. But the hype around fellow 2023 California QB commit Jaden Rashada may put that four-star ahead on the Hurricanes’ depth chart from the jump.

Roderick Kearney

The smoke around the potential flip of Kearney seems more plausible than hearsay or speculation. The Seminoles landed the four-star back in late June, just days after Kearney took an official to Florida. Although committing to an in-state rival, the Gators have continued to work on the offensive tackle, getting him on campus for the season opening win over Utah. The chatter around Kearney heading to Gainesville seems like it could happen any minute.
