RELATED: Biggest Midwest official visits of the spring
The 2020 class is the second that will have the advantage of taking official visits during their junior year of high school. Official visits were able to start with the beginning of April, and can take place through the last weekend in June. Here are the biggest official visits planned or taken during that stretch from Southeast prospects.
CARTAVIOUS BIGSBY - LSU, April 5
Has the race for Bigsby tightened up some over the last month? Not too long ago, many were talking about Bigsby being South Carolina's to lose, and while that could still be the case, an official visit to LSU has clearly made this race more interesting. Bigsby is viewed as an athlete by many schools. Some like him at safety, some think he could be a dynamic receiver, but he wants to play running back and LSU has told him he is that on their board. Ed Orgeron and LSU made a big move when they had Bigsby in Baton Rouge earlier this month.
ZE'VIAN CAPERS - South Carolina, April 26
Capers is committed to Arkansas, and he is on track to see a bump in his ranking soon, so the Razorbacks are doing all they can to keep him in the fold. South Carolina almost had Capers committed earlier this year, so the Gamecocks are a threat here. Tennessee has entered the race too, but this visit will be about South Carolina. Capers has been a high priority for Arkansas since last fall, so this visit has to scare the staff in Fayetteville. It will be interesting to see what the reaction is from Capers coming out of this visit.
KESHAWN LAWRENCE - LSU, April 5
The Tigers are hoping that Lawrence follows in the footsteps of another highly-ranked defensive back from the Nashville area, class of 2017 five-star JaCoby Stevens, and heads south to Baton Rouge to play his college ball. Lawrence took advantage of the chance to get down to the Bayou and get a first-hand look at how he would fit with the Tigers, and came back impressed. With the school always looking to reload at defensive back, the fact that Lawrence was already invited for an official shows that he's very much wanted by the school.
COOPER MAYS - Tennessee, April 12
The Vols legacy was on campus for his official visit over the weekend, taking in the program's spring game and getting a chance to go in-depth with the school's coaches. Mays has been a priority of the new staff for a while, and after his older brother ended up going to hated rival Georgia, keeping the younger Mays close to home would be a big move for Jeremy Pruitt and his staff. Mays hasn't given a timeline on when he plans on announcing a commitment, but the fact that he's already using an official on the hometown Vols shows that the school is a major factor.
EJ WILLIAMS - Tennessee, April 12
Tennessee appears to now be a major player for one of the top wide receivers in the south. Clemson has been viewed as the favorite to land Williams with Auburn right there as well, but Tennessee had Williams on campus over the weekend and the Vols made a strong impression. We will look back and see this visit as a turning point in Williams' recruitment? Only time will tell, but Tennessee is now a contender instead of the pretender in the Williams race.
