Favorites: Bernard has a preference right now for Miami and Iowa, followed by NC State, Vanderbilt and Stanford. He doesn't have any offers yet.
Skinny: Yvenson Bernard is beginning to get noticed in recruiting circles as a running back. He also played defense last year for Boca Raton earning on a spot on the Class 5A All State third team as a linebacker. Bernard has been hearing from about 20 schools through the mail and a few schools (Vanderbilt, Connecticut, Colorado State) talked to him last week at his high school. He said his two favorite schools right now were Miami and Iowa. Bernard added a few more when asked to name a top five.
"I'd say my top five is UM, Iowa, NC State and probably Vanderbilt and Stanford," Bernard said. "Iowa has been watching me a little more."
What is he going to look for when choosing a school?
"Probably how long it would take to start, academics also, and the location of the school," Bernard said.
Yvenson attended Miami's spring game last month. He said the player he liked to compare himself to is Najeh Davenport. He said he plans on attending football camps at Miami, NC State, and Ohio State this summer. Boca Raton's quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers will go to the NC State camp together. Bernard is also an excellent baseball player and has been hearing from Stetson University for that sport.
