South Florida DB names top two

When it comes to athletic defensive backs Steven Montgomery is one of the top prospects in the secondary from the Sunshine State. Montgomery, 5-11 and 185 pounds, recently transferred from Holllywood MacArthur to Miramar High School.
“I transferred last week,” Montgomery said. “The transition has been good. They really like me and right now I am trying to learn the defense. There is lots of competition. I will mainly be playing free safety but I think I will be playing everywhere in the secondary.”

Last season at MacArthur, Montgomery recorded 73 tackles, two interceptions, three sacks, and four forced fumbles.
“My strength as a player is my versatility. I can play a lot of positions on the field and can play them all at a high level. I have good speed and I like to hit you.”
According to Montgomery he has been offered by a trio of schools.
“Maryland, Western Kentucky, and UCF have all offered. Maryland was the first to offer and I was real excited, especially from a school like that.
“FSU is recruiting me the hardest of Florida schools. Early on I got a lot (of letters) from Miami. I think South Carolina should offer me soon. LSU, West Virginia and Georgia Tech are also recruiting me pretty hard.
“I like Florida State and Georgia Tech as my top two schools. I like Georgia Tech’s style on defense, especially how they use their safeties. I think I can fit in well there. I also like the city.
“I grew up a fan of FSU all my life. It would be hard to turn them down. The Florida State coaches want to see me this spring because I have not been to their camps or anything.”
Last year Montgomery visited Miami (Oklahoma game), Alabama, FSU, Florida and UCF.
”I have traveled a little bit. I might try and get to Orange and Blue game this week. I am going to try and get to LSU and Maryland for their spring games.”
