South Florida corner getting early looks

Miami (Fla.) Pace athlete DeMarcus Vandyke is receiving some serious early attention from several schools.
"Florida and Rutgers have been sending text messages," Vandyke said. "I've been getting letters from Florida, Miami, Rutgers, Ole Miss and Auburn."

The 6-foot-1, 165-pound Vandyke projects as a cornerback and a return specialist at the next level. His junior season, he averaged more than 17 yards per punt return and had three interceptions on defense.
"I'll play whatever position is best for the college, but I like cornerback the best," he said.
Vandyke has an early top five of Miami, Florida, Rutgers, Alabama and Auburn and spoke with Rivals.com about each of his favorites.
Miami: "I've been liking Miami since I was little."
Florida: "I like the Gators because I have family up in Gainesville."
Rugters: "I camped up there at Rutgers last summer. I like the coaching staff and the facilities."
Alabama: "I like (Crimson Tide head coach Mike Shula) a lot."
Auburn: "Auburn is Auburn. They are a big-time powerhouse program."
Of those, he expects Rutgers to be the closest to offering a scholarship.
Vandyke's spring plans include the Miami NIKE Camp on April 9 in Coral Gables and a trip to Gainesville to see the Gators' spring game.
