Eric McCollom has received his second official scholarship
offer, and it's a big one.
"I just got an offer from Iowa," said the
dual-threat quarterback, a member of the Rivals.com
South
Carolina Top 25 team. "I'm pretty excited about that. They're
having a great season, so for them to show that much interest in me is a big
honor. I'm not sure if I want to go that far away or not, but it's somewhere
I want to take a look at."
McCollom is also receiving heavy attention from
South Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, Penn State and LSU. He said the home
state Gamecocks would hold a "slight edge" in his overall recruitment, but
they've already taken a commitment from Georgia quarterback Blake Mitchell
and are pursuing fellow Palmetto State star Syvelle Newton as well.
"So I'm not really sure where I stand with them," he
said. "They keep telling me to be patient and see how things work out. I
think they're still evaluating some other guys for quarterback. I told them
I'm not going to do anything until after our season is over, hopefully after
we win the championship."
South Carolina, Iowa, Tennessee, Maryland and LSU
lead for his five official visits. Penn State, the first team to offer him,
also has an outside chance.
"I've camped up there a couple of time sand been
around their program, so I'm not really sure I'd need to go on an official
there," he said. "I already know a lot about them. It's a good program, just
kind of far from home, like Iowa."
McCollom has put up some incredible numbers this
season in leading Camden to an 11-1 record and the No. 1 ranking in Class 3A
as they pursue a back-to-back titles. He's passed for 2,989 yards and 34
touchdowns with only six interceptions. He's also rushed for 657 yards and
eight scores.
