Todd Spitzer gave his verbal
commitment to Cincinnati after making an official visit to the Bearcasts this
past weekend.
Spitzer (6-5, 220, 4.9) picked UC over Oklahoma State,
Southern Miss, Syracuse and Tulane.
"Oklahoma State made a strong push late, even after Todd
committed," said the player's father, Jim. "But Todd felt the entire situation
at UC -- from the academics, offensive system and staff to the logistics -- was
the best fit for him.
"His host for the weekend was (Bearcats QB) Gino
Guidugli, and they hit it off great. Coach (Rick) Minter said he felt Todd has
the ability to come in and compete for the backup role to Gino right away, and
if not, he said that he would have no problem redshirting him for a year to get
used to the system."
Spitzer quarterbacked a ground-oriented offensive attack
at Hillcrest High School this year, but still managed to pass for almost 700
yards despite throwing the ball only 8-10 times a game. His frame, strong arm
and pocket presence have helped overshadow the lack of glaring statistics.
