THE LATEST: Right before signing day, the final weekend South Carolina hosted official visitors for the 2017 cycle, they had some talented underclassmen on their campus as well. One was Katerian LeGrone, a 6-foot-3, 220 pound hybrid out of Atlanta (Ga.) B.E.S.T. Academy.

LeGrone is a big wide receiver who could project as a flex tight end and be that big target down the seam that could create mis-matches on the next level. He was born in Tuscaloosa (Ala.) before moving over to Atlanta at a young age. He still has family there, so there are some Crimson Tide fans close to him.

He is not hearing from Alabama yet, but Appalachian State, Georgia, Georgia State, Iowa State and Purdue are showing interest. None are showing the level of interest at South Carolina at this time. The Gamecocks have offered LeGrone and Mercer recently added their name to the list.

IN HIS WORDS: "The South Carolina offer kind of surprised me because it came out of nowhere. We were just trying on jerseys and taking pictures, then I was called to coach [Will] Muschamp's office. That is when it happened.

"We talked about my film when my team played against his brother's (Mike Muschamp) team, Lovett, and we were making jokes about it. After talking a little bit, he made sure that I knew I had an offer from South Carolina.

"It was exciting and it is just motivating to get my first offer. I know I can play on that level, now I have the offer and so I just have to keep grinding, keep going hard and I know good things will happen.

"What I liked at South Carolina during the visit was how the players there made me feel comfortable, how nice the campus was and how they are adding a lot of new stuff to their football facilities.

"Them being first to offer me puts them very high on my list. They will always be up there for me now."

RIVALS REACTION: LeGrone is a prospect that can do it all. He has lined up at defensive end, linebacker and safety defense as well as multiple positions on offense. His future is likely on offense due to strong hands, his ability to run and how he can get yards after the catch. South Carolina is a big first offer for him. He was very impressed by the staff and the football facilities in Columbia (S.C.), so combining that with it being offer No. 1 and his former teammate Robert Tucker already a Gamecock puts them in favorable place a little less than a year out from Signing Day 2018.
