The four-star running back from Lynnwood (Wash.) Mountlake Terrace said he's looking at scheduling some official visits for early in the fall and he said Arizona State, Cal and Oregon State look good in his recruitment.
"Those are the three off the top of my head that are really standing out right now," Downs said.
As for official visits, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound running back said he wants to schedule trips with Arizona State, Cal and Vanderbilt before making a decision. Downs was at Oregon State this summer and that's where he was injured.
The four-star said a decision could come within the first two months of the season.
"I'll probably decide earlier," Downs said. "I'll probably decide during the season after I take my visits. I want to check out some schools I haven't so far and I could make my decision in October or September."
Downs is out for the season. Late in Oregon State's camp, the four-star running back went down with a torn ACL and will miss his senior year. The target date for return is February and Downs said he's hopeful it will happen.
"We were at Oregon State's football camp and it happened right at the end of the scrimmage," Downs said. "I was going to stiff-arm some cornerback. It was a trap and I went to the left and 20 yards down field, I stiff-armed him and then I hyper-extended my knee."
In total, Downs lists offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Cal, Colorado State, Nebraska, Oregon State, Stanford, Utah, Utah State, Vanderbilt, Washington and Washington State.
