SoCal WR looking forward to season

Wide receiver/cornerback Mario Calix (5-9, 170, 4.49) from North Hills (Calif.) Monroe got off to late start during his junior season due to transfer rules. He didn’t get to play until the third game of the season. Calix made the most of his time allotted as a junior as he was named all-league as a wide receiver.
Calix is very athletic and versatile. As a freshman, Calix played running back for Van Nuys (Calif.) Montclair Prep on the varsity. He also participated in track.

As a sophomore, Calix didn’t play football and concentrated on track for Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey. He took the tough Coliseum League in the Long Jump with a 21’2. Calix ended up taking third in the City Section in 2003.
When the third game finally rolled around Calix was ready and he responded the whole season long. Calix caught 32 passes for 531 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Calix has received recruiting attention from Fresno States, San Jose State, Nevada, Utah, BYU, Boston College, Washington, and Washington.
Calix will attend Nevada’s junior day on July 30th and Fresno State has picked it up some on the recruiting trail.
Calix attended the NIKE Camp held in San Diego and ran 4.12 shuttle and recorded a 34-inch vertical jump. He also attended the adidas camp held at UCLA where he recorded a 37-inch vertical jump.
Calix will be participating in the NIKE fastest man challenge this Friday on July 16th being held at USC. He clocked a 4.42 forty at the preliminary trials for that event.
The scouting report on Calix is he’s an outstanding route runner and is a tough competitor who will make the catch over the middle. He has good athleticism and is a tremendous leaper.
