SoCal TE is NW bound

Long Beach Wilson (Calif.) tight end Howard Croom told us just a month ago that his plan was to take all five recruiting trips and then make his decision later in the year. As often happens, those plans changed and Croom decided to end the process early.
"Yeah, he committed last week," Crooms father Howard Sr. said. "He really liked Mike Riley and it's something he has been thinking about for a long time. He loved the campus at Oregon State and just felt like he fit in there. There were nothing but pluses with Oregon State and no negatives.

"He talked to my wife and I about it and said this was what he wanted to do. We didn't want to stand in his way and we could tell he really wanted to do this so we gave him our blessing and he decided to get it done.
"He's excited and relieved to have the decision out of the way. He thinks Oregon State is a great program and a place he'll thrive at. He's at a camp right now and will be home on Saturday."
Croom, 6-4, 230 pounds has a nice combination of size, speed and hands and had solid showing at both the Nike camps at USC and Oregon. He has a nice frame and will have no problem packing on the size when he gets to the next level.
As a junior, Croom played in a run oriented offense and wasn't featured much. He still caught 16 balls for 156 yards and three touchdowns and should double those numbers as a senior.
