SoCal standout having big season

Coming off his best game of the season, Compton (Calif.) Dominguez standout Marvin Johnson looks like a shoe in for all-state mention following the season. On the recruiting front, the athlete has a pair of official visits set and is hearing from a host of schools as well.
Johnson, 5-10, 185 pounds plays quarterback and defensive back for the Dons but projects as a safety or corner in college. The athlete earned 2nd team all-state underclass honors last season and is having a huge season this year for Dominguez, currently rated the No. 13 team in the state.

Johnson rushed for 250 yards last week including touchdown runs of 82 and 92 yards and threw for two other scores in a 56-7 pasting of Warren, Downey. Dominguez lost their season opener but have since rolled off eight straight wins and are as hot as any team in the state.
"We're not overlooking anyone but at the same time, we would love a chance to play Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) again in the playoffs," Johnson said. "They knocked us out last year and have a long winning streak going. Right now, we're the top two seeds in Div III so we wouldn't face them until the CIF finals which are December 10 at the Home Depot Center, at 4:30, and we're planning to be there."
On the recruiting front, Johnson has two trips planned but wants to keep the last three open at this time.
"I'm going to Colorado later this month (Nov. 25) and I have Fresno State set for (Jan. 6)," Johnson said. "They both have offered along with Boise State and Mississippi State. I'm also getting weekly calls from Oregon State, Arizona, Oregon and Idaho.
"I don't want to set up any more visits right now. I just want to keep those last three open to see who else starts to recruit me and who else might want to offer. I definitely like all the schools that have offered me and all the schools that are showing interest in me but I'm not close to narrowing my list down. I want to take all five trips for sure and then decide close to signing day."
