SoCal sleeper QB begins to wake up

It is tough enough to be a sleeper prospect when October rolls around. It is tougher still when the school you are attending fairly new and doesn't have the reputation for sending players to the D-I level, but quarterback Jake Bernards (6-5, 200, 4.9) from Valencia (Calif.) West Ranch some to be aware of.
Bernard first caught the attention of Rivals.com last summer after a couple of impressive camp outings and apparently, his camp performances weren't a fluke.

"It was a lot of fun going to the camps and seeing the competition," Bernards said. "Really just being out there competing with some big names was great."
"My senior year is going well," Bernards said. "We're off to a good start."
"I'd like to make all-league, and then to end up getting a scholarship in the end. Those are my goals for my senior year."
In six games, Bernards has hit on 83 passes out of 149 attempts for 952 yards and seven touchdowns. His completion percentage tips the scales at 55.7.
Things are beginning to pick up for Bernards on the recruiting trail.
"Right now UC Davis is showing me the most attention," Bernards said. "Also, I've gotten letters from New Mexico, Arizona and Marshall. I haven't heard too much about potential offers."
"UC Davis is the one school I'm looking at the hardest," Bernards said. "I'm just trying to get my name out there and get the interest going."
"I've been to UCLA and Arizona to see a game," Bernards said. "The experience was really cool. At the UCLA game it was cool to see their offense running and their new coaching staff. It was a lot of fun."
"I have not set up any official visits yet," Bernards said. "I definitely want to take some trips. I'd really like to go to any big D-I school. That's been my dream since I was a little kid."
"For me, I'd like to stay on the West Coast," Bernards said. "Also the academics are important."
"My parents have helped me with the recruiting process. They set up a profile and sent film and letters out. It's been a group effort."
The scouting report on Bernards is has a strong and accurate arm to go with outstanding size. He is very intelligent as his 4.2 GPA would indicate. He also has a qualifying 1500 SAT.
