SoCal sleeper is tough as nails

La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat could have at least five players who sign D-I letter-of-intents this coming February. It’s a good thing too because the Lancers are in arguably the toughest league, top to bottom, in Southern California.
One of Amat’s players who could sign a D-I scholie is strong safety/linebacker Andrew Gamez (5-11, 175, 4.52).

Gamez is a very tough competitor who played out of position a year ago as an inside linebacker. He will return to his more natural position of strong safety in 2004 the position Gamez played as a sophomore.
From his linebacker spot Gamez accounted for 88 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 2003.
Gamez leads by example and is not a rah, rah type but when he speaks up he commands the respect of his teammates. When he speaks, the team listens.
The scouting report on Gamez is he’s quick, tough and hits.
Gamez is receiving recruiting attention from Wyoming, Arizona, Arizona State, and Oregon. USC came by the school this past spring.
Look for Gamez to see his recruitment pick up with a strong senior season. He will be seen because of the level of competition he plays.
One to be on the lookout for this fall.
