SoCal safety racks up offers

Over the years Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey high school has been one of the finest football talent factories in Southern California. This year is no different.
The Dorsey Dons could have up to five D-I prospects for the class of 2004. One Dorsey athlete that is opening the eyes of recruiters is safety Jerome Boyd (6-2, 195, 4.5).

Boyd has offers on the table from Washington, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, and Oregon. He is getting recruiting action from USC, FSU and Miami. Boyd has a current top five schools of Washington, USC, UCLA, Miami and FSU. Washington is the slight leader at the present time.
The scouting report on Boyd is he’s a great cover guy who can really hit. He could end up playing either strong or free safety on the D-I level.
“We consider Jerome to be one of the top three safeties on the West Coast,” Dorsey assistant coach Ralph Caldwell said. “The thing that is going to separate Jerome from the pack is his track guy speed.”
“We’ve had some great safeties here at Dorsey,” Caldwell said. “Jerome is as good as any of them.”
Boyd racked up 85 tackles, five interceptions and two fumbles caused as a junior. His performance earned him all-league honors.
Boyd has a great work ethic. When BruinBlitz was visiting practice we witnessed him running 40-yard dashes dragging a 50-pound plate. Boyd also does a nice job in the weight room. His bench is 285, squat 385 and he has recorded a 32-inch vertical.
Boyd also did a nice job on the track this past spring. He ran the 4x100, 100-meter and 200-meter as a junior. His best time in the 100 is 10.9 and his 200 is 22.0.
“Jerome is a great young man with character and is very humble,” Caldwell said. “Jerome’s work ethic is second to none. He does the little things that separate the great players from the good.”
