SoCal RB picking up speed

Running back Jonathan DeWitt (5-9, 170, 4.5) from Inglewood, Calif., has parlayed an outstanding senior season into serious recruiting attention. Just over the past week, DeWitt has attracted teams from the Pac 10 and WAC to venture by the school to check him out.
Schools such as Cal, Washington State, Idaho, New Mexico State and Northern Arizona have come by the school recently because of their interest in DeWitt.

"Cal and New Mexico State like him a lot," Inglewood assistant coach in charge of recruiting Khalid Ali said. "They are very intrigued by Jonathan because of his explosiveness and speed.
"The reason that a lot of schools are late on him is because he's a transfer from Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral and didn't get to play a lot," Ali said. "He has made believers out of those who have seen him run.
"Jonathan had a run against San Pedro that coaches had to rewind because they couldn't believe what they saw," Ali said. "They were amazed by what they saw.
"The thing about Jonathan is he's not just a speed guy, who outruns people," Ali said. "He can do that and does, but he's also very tough. He knows how to finish off his runs."
DeWitt earned first-team all-league as a senior after rushing for over 800 yards on limited carries. He's also a fine receiver out of the backfield.
"Jonathan rushed for 198 yards against Beverly Hills high," Ali said. "Greg Townsend Jr. spearheads that defense and is one of the most sought players in our league for the class of 2011. He plays well against all competition."
The scouting report on DeWitt is he gets down in hill in a hurry. There isn't a lot of messing around. He makes his cut and then he's gone. He has outstanding acceleration, vision and cutting ability. He's very economical in his movements. He's a threat to score whenever he touches the football. Definitely player to take a look at.
