SoCal RB getting serious attention

The running back position was down in the Golden State for the class of 2005, but in the early going that doesn't seem to be the case for the class of 2006. San Diego is home for one of the best running backs in California.
The player in question is Demetrius Sumler (5-11, 210, 4.57) from San Diego (Calif.) University of San Diego.

The Texas Longhorns are very interested in Sumler and the feeling is mutual. Sumler attended junior day at the Austin campus this past weekend.
The Longhorns aren't the only team that is showing Sumler recruiting love. He has also received recruiting letters from Alabama, Colorado, USC and UCLA. He will take in some spring practices at USC and UCLA.
Sumler is expected to participate in the NIKE Camp in Los Angeles and is expected to return to USC camp where he camped as a junior. He may also go to UCLA's camp and it is almost a certain bet that Sumler will attend Mack Brown's Texas camp this summer.
"Demetrius is really excited about Texas," University of San Diego coach Sean Doyle said. "He will be very highly recruited and is getting letters from everyone."
"Besides having an excellent work ethic," Doyle said. "He has great size, speed and balance."
"Demetrius has very deceptive speed," Doyle said. "I don't know if it's because of his size, but defensive players take bad angles on him."
"It looks like the tackler will get him for only a 20-yard gain," Doyle said. "But he keeps going and blows right by them for a long one."
"Demetrius is not only a great football player, but he's a great young man," Doyle said. "He has great discipline and good grades."
In the weight room Sumler currently benches 285, squats 425 and power cleans 225. In the classroom, Sumler carries a 2.86 at a very academically challenging school
