SoCal QB Sean Norton Comes Up Huge

When it comes to recruiting quarterbacks, size definitely does matter. That being said, if anyone saw Newhall (Calif.) Hart quarterback Sean Norton in action Saturday night when the Indians dominated a talented Mission Viejo squad to win the CIF Div II title, few would question whether the signal caller has what it takes to play at the next level.
Norton, 5-10, 175 pounds put on an absolute clinic Saturday completing 20 of 24 passes for 309 yards and three touchdowns, including one stretch in which he completed 14 passes in a row. At least two of his four incomplete passes were drops by his receivers as Norton put on one of the most impressive displays we’ve ever seen by a quarterback in a championship game.

Although undersized, Norton has a live arm and definitely has the arm strength to play at the Div I level. He’s smart, poised in the pocket and has great toughness. Norton took some incredible shots but bounced right back up and would hang right back in the pocket on the next play with no sign of happy feet.
On the recruiting front, Portland State has stepped up with an offer and another school known for quarterbacks has recently jumped in to the picture as well.
“Fresno State just offered him and Sean will trip there next week,” Hart head coach Mike Herrington said. “Pat Hill (Bulldog head coach) has shown a lot of interest and I’m sure what Sean did tonight won’t do anything to hurt his chances. He’s a great player and has been doing it every game for the last two years. He’s a great leader and has had a great career for us.”
