SoCal lineman has favorite

Offensive lineman/defensive lineman David Huerta (6-2, 235, 4.9) from La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat sure passes the look test. He’s a versatile player who played tight end as a junior but he will play both offensive and defensive tackle for his senior season.
“Everyone who came by this spring showed interest in David,” Bishop Amat coach Mike Di Fiori said. “Most colleges want to see him play as a senior.”

Huerta has a high ceiling and has the potential to be a very good D-I college football player. He is very explosive off the ball and he’s a very strong blocker. Huerta is very physical and aggressive who loves the contact element of the game of football.
The reason Huerta played tight end was because of his outstanding blocking abilities. He will move to left tackle on the offensive side of the football in 2004.
Huerta has that lanky, lean frame that many D-I schools like. He could end up weight another 50 pounds without skipping a beat. Huerta currently benches 265 and squats 355.
Arizona State, Duke and Harvard are showing a lot of interest in Huerta. Norte Dame has sent handwritten letters but one school is very near and dear to Huerta’s heart.
Huerta’s number one priority would be getting accepted by the Air Force Academy.
“I want to serve my country,” Huerta said. “Growing up my Dad always said to me take pride in your country and he said that the United States is the best place to live on this planet.”
