SoCal linebacker lands No. 1

Versatile linebacker Mathew Lyons (6-2, 190, 4.7) from Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey is a very hard hitting football player who really brings it to the unfortunate player who happens to possess the football when he arrives.
Lyons is a team first guy, who puts the team first over self. Even though he has earned his first offer and is getting a lot of looks, his focus is on his senior season. His is to help his get to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and a City Section Championship. He wants to see his teammates get accolades as well and if it is a typical Dorsey team, Lyons will be sharing team accolades and D-I scholarships.

As a junior, Lyons earned first-team all-conference as a junior after accounting for 100-plus tackles, six fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, three sacks and one interception that he brought back for a touchdown.
Washington was first out of the box to offer Lyons a scholie. Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, USC, Baylor and Cincinnati are looking at him at the present time.
"I was excited with my offer from Washington," Lyons said. "They're on the rise and they have a nice recruiting class coming in.
"I know some players who just signed with Washington," Lyons said. "Gregory Ducre from Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw, Victor Burnett from Culver City, Calif., Sean Parker from Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne and Brent Williams from Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft and are guys I know who just signed with Washington.
"Washington said I could play a variety of positions for them," Lyons said. "They said I could play strong (safety) or like a rover as well as outside backer. I'm going to try to get up there for spring ball.
"I have been invited to both USC 'sand UCLA's junior day this weekend," Lyons said. "I'm not sure which one I'll go to yet.
"I'm keeping my options open, but I like Washington a lot," Lyons said. "I'm going to go ahead and through the recruiting process, but I could end up being an early commit. I'm going to be an early graduate."
What is Lyons looking for in a college?
"A good education," Lyons said. "Also a school with a home like environment and anybody who will let me play football."
Lyons will attend the NIKE Camp in Los Angeles, the B2G Elite Camp, FBU Camp in Arizona, the Badger Camp in Las Vegas and will camp with Washington because he wants to take a really good look at Washington.
Lyons sis an outstanding student who carries a 3.6 GPA and is scheduled to take his SAT in May.
