SoCal LB lands first two offers

Linebacker Luke Laolagi (6-3, 200, 4.6) from Lake Balboa (Calif.) Birmingham had a very busy spring that saw him get his first two offers and on the last day of phone calls, the phone at the Laolagi residence was ringing off the hook.
Just this past weekend alone Washington, Cal, Arizona and Oregon were able to get through to Laolagi on the phone. Many more tried to get through but were unsuccessful.

Notre Dame, Florida, Washington, Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State are a sampling of the colleges that came by Birmingham this spring.
Laolagi’s two offers are from Utah and San Jose State.
“Utah came by the school and saw Luke practice last Friday,” Sam Laolagi, Luke’s Dad said. “They called the house soon after and offered him a scholarship.”
“San Jose State has also offered,” Sam Laolagi said. “They offered by email and said they don’t give verbal offers.”
“Both schools said that we should get our written offers in the mail this week,” Sam Laolagi said.
Because Utah was the first to offer, Laologi will show loyalty to the Ute program and make Utah one of his five official visits.
Utah will only take two linebackers out of the class of 2005 and Laolagi is the only linebacker that the Utes have offered at this time.
That alone has made Laolagi very interested.
Laolagi will be participating in the UCLA one-day camp this weekend on June 6th.
In an earlier interview with Rivals.com Birmingham head coach Ed Croson has this to say about his talented linebacker.
“Luke is big, fast and also has an outstanding understanding of the game. He reads offensive schemes extremely well and doesn’t waste any steps.”
“Luke is a playmaker,” Croson said. “He makes a ton of plays. When were on Fox for the game of the week against Taft he had something like 20 tackles.”
“Luke had that amount of tackles in about three games last season,” Croson said. “That’s the kind of player he is, he’s just so quick to the ball and has a nose for it.”
“As a football player and as an athlete,” Croson said. “Luke is in the same class as (former Birmingham greats) Dennis Keyes (UCLA), Chad Green (ASU) and Ramal Porter (SDSU).”
“To give you an idea of how talented an athlete Luke is,” Croson said. “He was getting looks for his baseball skills by major league baseball during his sophomore year.”
“Luke has given up baseball in favor of football,” Croson said. “He has a great future in football.”
Laolagi is a talented athlete who has been on the varsity squad since his freshman year and he will be a three-year starter when his senior season rolls around.
This talented linebacker is a two-time all-city selection.
