Corona (Calif.) Centennial has a sleeper linebacker who has already awoken one D-I school and has received his first offer. The linebacker in question is Shelly Lyons (6-1, 240, 4.7).
According to Centennial coach Matt Logan, Lyons has received his first offer from San Diego State. He is being recruited by Utah, Arizona and Washington.
Lyons is just beginning to hit stride as a football player.
"Shelly was kind of a big soft kid when he arrived on campus and he was kind of green as a football player," Logan said. "But he has grown into a tough hard nosed football player with a great nose for the football.
"Shelly is still a puppy and is raw, but his upside is immense," Logan said. "From game one to game 12, he just kept getting better and better.
"We are going to move him inside this season," Logan said. "He's going to be in charge of our defense and call the plays.
"Shelly is going to make sure everybody is going to be in their proper alignment," Logan said. "He has really come a long way.
As a junior Lyons racked up 88 tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception.
The scouting report is Lyons is a tough and hard hitting linebacker. He is very good with hand and is excellent at getting off blocks.
