SoCal LB lands first offer

Another impressive player at the NIKE Camp held in Palo Alto, Calif., was linebacker Damion Whittington (6-1, 220, 4.55) from Norco, Calif. He displayed the type of athleticism that could allow him to play safety on the D-I level.
"I feel that I did fine at the camp and our position coach said I had a great day," Whittington said about his NIKE Camp performance. "They had me matching up against the top guys who were at the camp."

Whittington was very active and playmaking linebacker who is always around the ball. He earned first-team all-league honors after racking up 116 tackles, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
Nevada was the first team out of the box with an offer. Boise State and Fresno State are currently recruiting him the hardest and are said to be close to offering.
"UCLA, USC, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado are recruiting me," Whittington said. "Basically the whole Pac 10 is showing interest.
"I'm looking for a school where I can get a good education. The campus, coaches and defensive scheme will also be considered.
"Nevada offered me as a linebacker," Whittington said. "Arizona and Arizona State are recruiting me as a safety."
Most of the other colleges are recruiting him as an athlete.
"I would like to play strong safety on the collegiate level," Whittington said. "The only other camp I'm signed up for is Oregon, but I'm thinking about going to UCLA and USC for their camps, too."
Whittington is very open to schools right now and physical location at this point is not a major concern.
