SoCal LB in scramble mode

Signing Day can be both an exciting time or a disappointing time depending on whether or not a player has a school to sign with. For a player who had early scholarship offers only to have them pulled late in the process, it can be even more painful and that's currently the case for talented Corona (Calif.) Centennial linebacker Darryl Johnson.
Johnson, 5-10, 210 pounds has been one of the top linebackers in the state the past two seasons. We saw him play in person against Long Beach Poly back in week one of the season and were very impressed. He had 125 tackles as a junior and 127 more this year despite missing parts of four games due to an injury.

"It's baffling to me what is going on with him," Centennial head coach Matt Logan said. "He had offers from Kansas, UTEP, Wyoming and Colorado State and then they all just disappeared. I think a few of those schools filled up for linebackers in this class and the others decided to go in a different direction.
"I've been calling schools to see who is interested, even some Div IAA schools but it's so late in the process right now and I'm not sure if everyone is filled up or not. He can definitely play at that level. We've sent a couple of linebackers to Div I schools in the last three years, Brett Martin to San Diego State and Ryan Phipps to Oregon, and Darryl compares very favorably to both of them. He can run and hit and is a very good tackler."
Johnson is also a full qualifier carrying a 3.5 GPA with a 980 score on the SAT.
