SoCal Kicker Likes The SEC

Los Alamitos (Calif.) kicker Brooks Rossman, arguably the top player at his position on the West Coast, has two January trips lined up and is hearing from several other schools from all over the country.
Rossman, 6-1, 160 pounds won the prestigious Chris Sailor National Kicking Competition in Las Vegas (Nev.) earlier in the year and is a national prospect at the position. He has a strong, accurate leg out to 50 yards on field goals and drills the majority of his kickoffs in to the end zone.

On the recruiting front, Rossman has visits lined up with South Carolina (Jan. 9) and Oregon State (Jan 16). Air Force has offered a scholarship, Illinois has told him he’s the top kicker on their board and both Cal and Utah have expressed interest in offering a scholarship.
“I like South Carolina, that’s my top school,” Rossman said. “I have a lot of family in Florida so I’m comfortable in the South. I think it would be fun to play for Lou Holtz. Before I transferred to Los Al, I was at San Diego (Calif.) Torrey Pines and worked out all the time with Mike Carney who kicked for the Chargers. Mike played for Holtz at Notre Dame and said he’s a great coach, a great person and he loved playing for him.
“I have a ton of family in Illinois too so that’s another school I’m looking at. The only down side there is it can get pretty good there and I’m not a huge fan of the cold. Air Force said I could come in and start right away but I don’t know if I want to do the military commitment once football is over with. Right now, my plan is to take a few of my trips and then make a decision but if I feel a school is right for me, I’ll go ahead and pull the trigger early.”
