If there was a question that defensive end Datone Jones (6-4, 240, 4.8) from Compton, Calif., is one of the hottest prospects on the west coast there can be no question now with his eighth.
"Datone received an offer from USC today," Compton coach Calvin Bryant said. "Ken Norton Jr. called and said they would like Datone to be a Trojan.
"Datone was elated to hear that the possible Pre-Season top ranked Trojans were offering him.," Bryant said "We'll see what happens next with Datone and his option to commit to a school or wait until signing day.
Besides USC, Jones has offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, UCLA, Colorado, Ole Miss and Fresno State.
Jones was a first-team all-league selection the very tough Moore League after racking up 60 tackles and four sacks. He also earned his team's most improved player award as a junior.
Jones plays both ways for Compton but projects as a defensive player on the D-I level. He also runs the 200-m and 400-m in track.
