SoCal DB packs a wallop

Santa Ana (Calif.) Calvary Chapel hasn’t been known for producing D-I football players in the past but with new coaches this is a program that has shown marked improvement over the past two seasons. One of the reasons is the emergence of cornerback Jordan Thoma (5-9, 170, 4.45).
Thoma was selected all-league first-team and was all-CIF academic as a junior.

The scouting report on Thoma is that he’s a physical ball hawking corner. Case in point is Thoma had five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and four interceptions in 2003.
“If you’re watching a game and you want to know where Jordan is just follow the ball,” Calvary Chapel assistant coach Scott Enyeart said. “He’ll be there.”
“Jordan is a great cover corner,” Enyeart said. “He blankets every receiver we face and we have several receivers that stood 6-foot-3 to 6-foot-4 in our league and he still shut them down.”
“We nicknamed him buzz,’ Enyeart said. “He just flies around the field pestering everyone like a bee.”
Yeah like a killer bee.
Thoma is a playmaker who plays bigger than his size.
“Jordan picked up three kickoffs that gained us possession of the football,” Enyeart said. “The amazing thing is they were on kickoffs, not on onside kicks. It was a pure hustle play.”
Thoma is still pretty much of a sleeper but he has drawn the attention of Navy, Air Force, San Diego State, Iowa State, Harvard and UC-Davis.
A good all-around athlete, Thoma is getting looks for his skills as a wrestler as well.
