SoCal corner packs a wallop
Tough physical corners that can run are always at a premium. One that fits that fits that bill to a tee is Derek Wilson (6-0, 162, 4.45) from Ventura (Calif.) Saint Bonaventure. He is a good all-around athlete who also participates in basketball and track.
Wilson was selected all-league as a junior after accounting for 33 tackles, three picks and one sack.

Wilson is as good in the weight room as he is on the gridiron. He has outstanding lower body strength with his squat of 400 pounds. He also has a very good hand clean of 235.
“Derek is hearing from everybody,” Saint Bonaventure head coach John Mack said. “He’s going to be big time.”
Wilson has received handwritten letters from UCLA according to Mack and he’s getting letters all the time from USC, Arizona, Cal, Notre Dame and Texas.
Wilson attended USC’s junior day and like everyone who attended the event, he went away very impressed with USC and the direction the Trojan program is heading.
Mack is very impressed with his young corners all around ability on the gridiron.
“The thing that makes Derek standout,” Mack said. “Is he is fearless when it comes tackling.”
“A lot of corners can cover,” Mack said. “But don’t like to hit.”
“Derek isn’t one of them,” Mack said. “He will come and hit you.”
“Derek could play safety on the D-I level, he tackles that well,” Mack said. “But he’s such a talented lockdown corner that it is more than likely that he will play corner on the next level.”
