SoCal athlete has busy schedule

Safety prospect Marlon Johnson (6-0, 183, 4.5) from Inglewood, Calif., started the recruiting process as a sleeper. After showing his athletic skill at several positions this past fall he started to grab the attention from several western schools.
"Just last week we had University of New Mexico, Utah State and UNLV on campus to see Marlon," Inglewood assistant coach Khalid Ali said. "This week, Marlon is planning to meet with Arizona State, Nevada, San Diego State and Cal.

"Marlon is very athletic football player who should get a few more offers as the signing draws near," Ali said. "As I said previously, the schools interested in him were impressed by his highlight DVD, which only featured clips from the first three games of the season.
"We are currently working on a full season highlight DVD which should be completed sometime this week," Ali said. "We plan on mailing copies to 20 schools who have expressed interest in Marlon. Coach Mincy is very focused on making sure we exhaust our efforts to advocate for our young men.
"Marlon is scheduled to visit UNLV in the next two weeks and will visit New Mexico in early January," Ali said. "Both teams have offered him as well.
"Marlon also has a trip planned to San Jose State in mid January and a few more trips that are pending," Ali said. "I spoke with Marlon over the weekend and he realizes how blessed he is to have an opportunity to play football at the next level."
Johnson started at six different positions during his senior season and returned punts and kicks.
As a defensive back, playing both corner and safety, Johnson racked up 37 tackles, three pass deflects, one pick and one fumble recovery.
While playing quarterback, running back and wide receiver this season, Johnson rushed for 159 yards and scored four touchdowns. He had 11 receptions for 213 yards and one receiving touchdown. He passed for 261 yards and threw for two touchdowns.
