SoCal athlete had busy summer

Jeremy Stein (6-1, 210, 4.7) from Carpenteria, Calif., has the versatility that D-I schools like. There is a possibility that he could play linebacker or even punt on the collegiate level. He has been very busy on the camp circuit this summer improving on all aspects of his game.
Former head coach at Carpenteria, John Hazelton thinks Stein has an outstanding future as a college player.

"Jeremy is doing very well," Hazelton said. "He's a big kid now and I believe he is legit, especially as a punter.
"Jeremy trains with (kicking guru) Chris Sailer and overall is just a hard working kid with a really good attitude to go with his athletic ability," Hazleton said. "A lot of schools are showing interest. We had coaches from USC, Washington, Oregon State, Colorado State, New Mexico State, Northwestern and Navy come by the school because of him.
"Besides doing Junior Days in April at UCLA and Cal, he visited Stanford for their Junior Day and he performed at the Nike Camp at the same time," Hazleton said. "He performed very well. He also trains with a strength and conditioning coach, Marcus Elliott, who was with Pete Carroll at New England.
One thing that everyone can agree with is Stein is a worker and isn't leaving anything for chance. He has been very proactive in getting himself in front of college coaches.
"I know a good senior season will help my recruitment even more, so I haven't spent my summer just sitting around," Stein said. "I've already attended college camps at Cal, UCLA, Cal Poly, Brown and Yale. While I was back east I took a visit to Northeastern, which I liked a lot and living in Boston would be cool.
"Now that passing league is over I'm leaving for another trip," Stein said. "I am camping at Cornell on the 25th and Northwestern on the 30th and in between I have visits with Villanova, Lehigh, Lafayette, Penn and Purdue."
Does Stein have a preference whether he plays linebacker or punts on the collegiate level?
"I don't have a preference what position I play in college, so when I go to camps I always work out as a linebacker and as a punter," Stein said. "I'm just looking for a good fit and the right combination of athletics and academics. As long as I have that, I'll do whatever the coaches need me to do.
Stein is one of the best punters in California. Last season he averaged 42 yards on 38 punts with 16 punts landing inside the 20.
Stein was named first team all-county, first team all-CIF and second team all-state by.
Northwestern and Purdue are recruiting Stein specifically as a punter.
Besides being an outstanding athlete, Stein is tremendous in the classroom, too, who carries a perfect 4.0 GPA.
